The Bread of Life - Why I became a
Catholic
There was an engineering student in Manila. He was
a catholic but did not know his Catholic faith very well. He was looking for
something but did not know what it was he was looking for. He decided to become
a Mormon and spent a few years being so. But found that whatever it was he was
looking for it was not in the Mormon faith. So he decided to become a Baptist.
He spent another few years being a Baptist. Then one day he read a passage in
the gospel that said. “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me shall not
hunger and he who believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35) He realized
that that was what he was looking for, something to satisfy his hunger and his
thirst. So he began to rediscover the mystery of the Blessed Eucharist in his
own Catholic faith. He reconverted back to Catholicism. He then decided that he
wanted to become a priest. But when Cardinal Sin heard that he had been a Mormon
and a Baptist he was not too comfortable. So he was not allowed into the
diocesan seminary. He was admitted to another seminary and after his studies
when it was seen that he was bona fide he was ordained and accepted into the
diocese of Manila. His first assignment as a priest was in the chapel of the
university when he had been a student. Each day when saying Mass when it came to
the moment to hold up the sacred host he would say “This is the lamb of God who
takes away the sin of the world…” and he would add. “This is why I left the
Mormon faith and this is why I left the Baptist faith”. But there were many
Mormons and Baptists in that university who did not like him saying these things
so they complained and he had to be moved to another parish where he is to this
day.
Unfortunately I do not know the source of this
story. If you know please e-mail me so that I can
acknowledge. Thanks.
